Tribunal Dismisses Achonu’s Petition Against Uzodimma

The Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed a petition filed by the Labour Party seeking to nullify the election of Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo State.

In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, the three-man panel of the tribunal held that Uzodinma’s election complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The tribunal further held that the Labour Party failed to prove its allegations of over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral act.

Uzodinma, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had scored 540,308 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 71,503 votes.

The Labour Party candidate, Athan Achonu, came third with 64,081 votes.

The tribunal’s decision affirms Uzodinma’s victory in the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.
