The Global Pro life Alliance, GPA, has formally requested support from the United Nations for the African Reparative Justice Treaty (ARJT), a framework aimed at addressing the legacies of slavery and colonialism.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the GPA highlighted the Treaty’s alignment with global principles of justice and equality.
“The ARJT is grounded in the values and principles upheld by the United Nations, including justice, human dignity, and the right to redress historical wrongs,” the letter read.
Dr. Philip C. Njemanze, Imo state born Academician with the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and Chairman of the Global Prolife Alliance (GPA), emphasized the urgency of the initiative.
“This Treaty seeks to address the enduring consequences of the transatlantic slave trade and colonialism through a comprehensive international framework of reparative justice,” Dr. Njemanze stated.
The Treaty also references the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (2001), calling for tangible measures to restore dignity and foster reconciliation.
“The United Nations’ endorsement and active engagement would lend global legitimacy to these efforts and set a historic precedent for justice and healing,” they added.
The GPA urged the Secretary-General to encourage Member States, particularly those with historical ties to slavery and colonialism, to engage constructively with the initiative.
“We remain at your disposal to provide further information and to collaborate with your office in presenting this Treaty to relevant UN bodies,” the letter concluded.
The ARJT stands as a rallying cry for justice, urging the global community to take a united stance on rectifying historical injustices.
