In a major political realignment that signals renewed momentum for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Engr. Uche Banna, former Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of the Imo State Facilities Management Agency under the past Rebuild Imo administration, a notable and strong leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially joined the APC amid jubilation and in the presence of high-ranking party leaders.
The defection event which held in Owerri North at the residence of the APC Owerri North Chairman attracted a host of party stalwarts, including Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi (Imo East Senatorial District), Hon. Sir Tochukwu Okere (Member Representing Owerri Federal Constituency), Hon. MacDonald Ebere (Imo APC State Chairman), Mr. Kelechi Azuwuike, Hon. Lucky Abaraonye, as well as numerous party executives and ward leaders.
Welcoming Engr. Banna into the APC fold, State Chairman Hon. MacDonald Ebere hailed him as “a grassroot mobilizer and a household name.” He added, “I have special respect for you. He reminded the gathering of Uche Banna’s political campaign slogan Tinye Uche gi na Banna and buttressed him as a man of capacity, a strategist, and an astute organizer.
“APC is a party that welcomes all, regardless of when they join.” he buttressed.
In his heartfelt remarks, Engr. Uche Banna expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the warm reception from APC leaders. “This is my home, and it feels like an altar call where I have heeded to and truly converted”. It is now time for evangelism.
Grassroots mobilization is our calling, and we will continue the evangelism of the focused and result oriented leadership of H.E. Sen. Hope Uzodinma. He affirmed that the Governor has surpassed expectations which has further attracted him to his style of leadership. While pledging to key into the 3R administration and the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu he promised to bring more people into the APC.
He went on to thank Senator Onyewuchi, Hon. Tochukwu Okere, and other leaders present, including Prince Lemmy Akakem(Okpata), Chief Henry Njoku(Harritex), Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu(Deputy Speaker IMHA) and Rt.Hon. Henry Nwawuba who called in.
He went further to say “I sincerely thank God for today’s fair weather and this opportunity to join the winning team. We are ready to work.”
Both Senator Onyewuchi and Hon. Tochukwu Okere commended Banna’s courageous move, describing him as a seasoned organizer who was once a formidable pillar of the opposition, now strengthening APC’s ranks in Owerri North.
The event sent a clear message of unity within the party. Leaders unanimously declared, “There is no faction in APC anywhere.” The emphasis on peace, collaboration, and grassroots strength marked a fresh chapter for the party in the region.
With his official resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Uche Banna’s entry into the APC was likened to “gaining a bishop on the chessboard”— a strategic asset in the party’s drive for wider reach and grassroots consolidation.
