The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has lauded the resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing it as an exemplary and timely move.
Obi stated that the decision demonstrated Ganduje’s commitment to prioritizing personal health and the demands of leadership.
In a statement shared on Friday via X (formerly Twitter), Obi said he had read reports of Ganduje stepping down from his position due to health challenges.
“It is a commendable decision to step aside when one realizes that their health may not allow them to serve effectively,” Obi said.
Dr. Ganduje, who previously served as Kano State Governor, reportedly vacated his office at the APC national secretariat in Abuja. While specific details surrounding his resignation remain unclear, sources have cited declining health as the primary reason for his departure.
Reacting to the development, Obi highlighted the wisdom and courage displayed by Ganduje in resigning at such a crucial moment. “It is both wise and honourable to prioritize one’s health over continued service that may no longer meet the demands of office,” Obi noted.
