Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has denied rumors suggesting he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor reaffirmed his allegiance to the party during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) held on Saturday in Enugu.
“I am still in the PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP,” Mbah said,
Mbah acknowledged the challenges currently facing the PDP but clarified that these issues were not unique to the party.
He expressed confidence that the internal crises within the PDP would be resolved in due course.
“We are not the only party encountering crises in this country. I am optimistic that our party will soon find solutions to its problems and emerge stronger.”Mbah explained.
Addressing questions about independent candidacy, the governor pointed out that the Nigerian constitution does not accommodate individuals running for office as independent candidates.
“The constitution does not recognize or have a provision for independent candidacy,“So you must still do the politics as you cannot completely shield yourself from it.”Mbah said
The governor further highlighted that his administration’s primary focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Enugu State. “It is clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them. So we have focused largely on governance,” he noted.
Mbah revealed that his political rival from the 2023 gubernatorial election, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, has returned to the PDP to collaborate with him in advancing Enugu State’s progress.
“Chijioke Edeoga has rejoined the PDP. We are now working together to move Enugu State forward,” the governor disclosed, describing the reconciliation as a positive step for the state’s development.
