The Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, in partnership with Associate Professor Humphrey Akanazu, has renovated and commissioned a dilapidated school block at UBE Model School, Amaku Orodo, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The project, completed under Rotary International’s Basic Education and Literacy Initiative, aims to improve learning conditions and enhance access to quality education in underserved communities.
Speaking during the commissioning, the President of Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, Rtn. Amaka Ogudo, said education remains central to Rotary’s humanitarian mission.
She said the Club believes education is the foundation for societal growth, and its goal is to create a conducive learning environment that inspires both pupils and teachers.
Ogudo commended Prof. Akanazu for sponsoring the project, describing his support as a demonstration of how collaboration between Rotary and philanthropists can transform communities.
Akanazu, an education management consultant and principal partner at Docenti Global Business School, Nigeria, has been involved in several education-focused initiatives, including the establishment of Rome Business School, Nigeria.
Community members and school authorities expressed gratitude to Rotary and Akanazu, noting that the renovated block — now freshly painted and equipped with improved facilities — would greatly enhance teaching and learning in the school.
The event was attended by Rotary members, community leaders, education stakeholders, and guests, all of whom lauded the effort as a practical expression of Rotary’s enduring motto: Service Above Self.
