Final Of Uzodimma Peace Cup Football Tournament Holds Saturday, January 10

The final of the Governor Hope Uzodimma Peace Cup football tournament among the six communities in Oru North in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State holds on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

The cup was donated by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, to appreciate Governor Hope Uzodimma for the return of peace in the area, which hitherto used to be a hotbed of insecurity.

The final, which will be played at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Ubulu, in Oru West Local Government Area of the state, will be between Ubulu Ward and Aji Ward by 3 pm.

It will be preceded by the third-place match, which will be held at the same venue by 9 am between Ele Ward and Ibiasoegbe Ward.

Emelumba disclosed that the tournament, which will now hold annually to appreciate the peace efforts of the governor, attracted many youths who displayed their talents on the field of play.

He said the final is set to attract dignitaries from all over Oru West Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.

Emelumba expressed satisfaction with the attendance and standard of officiating at the football tournament and commended those who assisted in the organisation of the event.

The special guest of honour for the event is Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso, the senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly.

The competition opened on December 21, 2025, with the opening match between Ibiasoegbe and Ubulu communities, with the latter winning by two goals to nil.
