The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, summoned the Managing Director of Aspira Nigeria Limited — manufacturers of Viva Soap and detergents, Mr Houseni Jaafar — to its Port Harcourt office over an alleged fraudulent act to swindle Unik D Nig Ltd, a company owned by Chief Emeka Diwe, President-General of the Association of South East Town Unions (ASITU).
The fraud was to the tune of N90 million in cash and a cumulative sum of N150 million covering the cost of acquisition of a warehouse, car purchase and branding, among other sundry expenses.
The EFCC summoned Aspira Nigeria Limited following a petition dated 5th February, 2026, by Chibuike Nwokeukwu (SAN) & Associates.
The petition, which was personally signed by C.A.N. Nwokeukwu, SAN, was titled: “Obtaining money by false pretences and fraud by Aspira Nigeria Limited, the Managing Director of Aspira Nigeria Limited, Mr Houseni Jaafar, Mr Henry Ndudi, Mr Bok Givannis and many others at large.”
Aspira Nigeria Limited, producers of Viva Soap and detergents, had sometime in August 2025, through its marketing representative, one Mr Henry Ndudi, approached the Managing Director of Unik D Ltd, Chief Emeka Diwe, and lured him into paying the sum of N90 million cash into the company’s account to enable Aspira Nigeria Limited license his company, Unik D Ltd, as a distributor of Viva Soap/detergents in the South East.
Immediately after the confirmation of the lodgement of the said amount into Aspira’s account, the Managing Director, Mr Houseni Jaafar, Mr Henry Ndudi and other company staff involved in the transaction became elusive.
Several attempts by the Managing Director of Unik D Ltd, Chief Emeka Diwe, to reach the Managing Director of Aspira were frustrated by the MD.
The incident is seen as one case too many where foreigners operating various businesses in Nigeria defraud their Nigerian partners and dehumanize their local staff.
