Chief Chukwudi Opara, popularly known as Udochimara Emii, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of renowned artist Ndaa Paddy Joseph Obinna and respected community leader Chief Pal Akalonu, describing their passing as a painful loss to Owerri North Local Government Area and Imo State.
In a condolence message on Saturday, Opara said the two deceased men lived exemplary lives marked by integrity, service and commitment to the advancement of their communities. He noted that although they belonged to different callings, they shared a common legacy of selfless contributions that would continue to inspire generations.
He described the late Joseph Obinna, who died at the age of 82, as a gifted artist whose creative works projected the cultural heritage of the Igbo people and earned him admiration across the state. Opara said Obinna’s passion for the arts and his humility made him a respected figure beyond his immediate community of Umuocham, Emekuku.
The philanthropist added that Obinna’s life was a testament to hard work, excellence and dedication, stressing that his artistic legacy would remain a reference point for younger generations seeking to preserve and promote Nigeria’s rich cultural identity.
Opara also paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Pal Akalonu, who passed away at the age of 91, describing him as an elder statesman, community builder and custodian of cherished traditional values. He said Akalonu devoted his lifetime to the peace, unity and development of Ubah Mbaoma, Emii, and Owerri North at large.
According to him, the late nonagenarian earned the respect of his people through his wisdom, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the progress of his community, adding that his counsel and contributions would be sorely missed.
“These two distinguished sons of Owerri North have left behind enduring legacies of honour, service and excellence. Their lives touched countless people, and their memories will continue to inspire us to serve humanity with sincerity and dedication,” Opara said.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Obinna and Akalonu families, the people of Umuocham Emekuku and Ubah Mbaoma Emii, as well as friends and associates of the deceased, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss and repose the souls of the departed in eternal peace.
