Media consultant and former Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, Chief Dr Fidel Onyeneke, has commended Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi for providing free eye treatment, drugs and other medical services to residents of Owerri Senatorial Zone.
Onyeneke spoke at Avu in Owerri West Local Government Area while addressing beneficiaries of the medical outreach, describing the initiative as a practical way of bringing the benefits of democratic representation closer to the people.
He also commended Onyewuchi for what he described as empowerment programmes that have supported youths in Imo State, saying interventions in healthcare and economic empowerment could help ease the difficulties faced by people struggling with poverty.
According to Onyeneke, the medical programme attracted a large turnout, with beneficiaries receiving eyeglasses, assorted drugs and other medical assistance. He urged other political office holders to emulate the initiative and remain responsive to the needs of their constituents.
Onyeneke also called for increased investment in Nigeria’s health sector, particularly in rural communities where residents face difficulties accessing medical care. He said the health of citizens was closely linked to their productivity and economic wellbeing and urged leaders to prioritise programmes that improve the welfare of the people.
