…Seeks Protection from Security Agencies

The Director-General of the APC Governorship Council in Abia State, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has alleged a sinister plot by some individuals to assassinate him.

He raised the alarm that those plotting his elimination perceive him as an obstacle to the realisation of their governorship election.

Addressing newsmen in his ancestral home in Umuahia, the former commissioner, who holds the chieftaincy title of Evuleogu Ibeku, disclosed that he was raising the alarm for security agencies to take proactive measures to ensure that he does not swell the number of unresolved murders in Nigeria.

He noted that all he had ever done as the Director-General of Chief Eric Opah’s campaign organisation was to promote his candidate and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

He said he received credible intelligence over the weekend that those not aligned with his style of politics and the principles of the ruling APC in Nigeria had conspired to eliminate him.

Chief Ogbonnaya, who refused to give journalists the names of the suspects, however, warned that there would be catastrophic consequences should anything happen to him.

“I have duly informed my family, and I have now put Nigerians, especially security agencies, on notice. Those plotting to eliminate me should shelve their plans and let us play politics the way it should be,” he declared.

Describing himself as an apostle of politics without bitterness, as espoused by the late Waziri Ibrahim, Evuleogu Ibeku warned against the introduction of violence into Abia politics.

According to him, all the governorship candidates are from Abia State, and they should marshal out their own developmental initiatives, as he has been marketing Chief Eric Opah, the APC candidate.

He advised that those in government, from the federal to state and local government levels, should always accept constructive criticism in good faith.
