Governor Hope Uzodinma should complete the circle of governance in Imo State by assigning portfolios to his Special Advisers, SAs and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs.
He had inaugurated his Commissioners , whom he assigned portfolios on the same day he inaugurated his SAs and SSAs.
It is improper on the part of the Governor to assemble over 80 aides to assist and advise him on various aspects of governance of the State, without detailing them to their duty posts.
This makes mockery of the appointments in the first place and subject the appointees to become objects of scorn and ridicule in the eyes of the people.
The appointees are now like school children without classes. It is also against the grain of commonsense for the appointees to be allowed to now wander like sheep without sheperd or like Alice in wonderland, who are stranded and confused over their ordeal
At a period the State is battling successfully to handle the spread of the coronavirus pandemic,Governor Uzodinma needs all the hands and expertise he can muster, the appointees inclusive, to navigate the State during this turbulent times.
Those who argue that the Governor is not constitutionally bound to assign portfolios to his aides after appointing them, completely miss the point, because they fail to note that governance is complex and dynamic, which therefore makes it imperative, for the cycle of appointments to propel the wheels of governance, are completed and fully activated.
It is even strange that the SAs and SSAs were left in the dark more than three weeks after inauguration, while Transition Chairmen and members of Interim Management Committees of the 27 local Governments in the State have been sworn in and commenced duties barely a week they were inaugurated by the Governor.
Leaving the SAs and SSAs unemployed sends a wrong signal that the Governor may have run out of ideas on portfolios/designations he wants to assign to his multitude of aides or seems to have regretted the high number of appointees.
Assuming this is the case, we suggest that the number of the Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs he had appointed, are reduced by redeploying some of the SSAs to other duty posts within the circle of government.
Leaving majority of his SAs, SSAs idle, after they were inaugurated is against known patterns in governance in modern climes.
There is time for remedy by His Excellency.
