Imo Speaker, Lawmakers At Daggers Drawn

by admin

There is an ongoing feud between the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon.Chiji Collins and majority of members of the House.

22 out of of the 27 members were reported to have expressed their willingness to commence impeachment process against the Speaker.

This newspaper was unable to ascertain when the process will commence after the House was forced to go on recess after 13 members were feared to have contracted Covid 19.

The House complex was shut down by the State Task Force on Covid 19 for two weeks.

Though the Lawmakers have not been officially cleared to resume sitting by the Task Force on Covid 19, some of the aggrieved lawmakers are said to be meeting to perfect plans to remove the Speaker.

One of the lawmakers lamented that their grouse against the Speaker is “everything starts and ends with the Speaker”

The Nation quoted member representing Oguta Constituency, Frank Ugboma to have complained on the attitude of the Speaker whom he accused of “greed”

He said “This is so much so that he is now cowed to carry out oversight over executive misdeeds.

The lawmaker also complained over non payment of salaries to House members.

This newspaper was however informed that those spearheading the impeachment moves are linked to former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, an allegation roundly denied by the lawmaker, which he described as well “calculated crap”
