Hon (Mrs) Uju Onwudiwe, member representing Njaba State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, has opened up how she escaped death by the whiskers after escaping a bottle attack flung at her by a male colleague.
Mrs Onwudiwe was attacked by member representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency, Hon.Samuel Otuibe, who flung bottles at her during a meeting of House members which took place at the residence of the Deputy Speaker, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu.
The meeting centered on non payment of salaries of House members and their aides for three months
Trouble was said to have begun when another female member of the House, Hon Mrs Ngozi Obiefule, was addressing the meeting, Hon.Otuibe rudely interrupted her. This irked Mrs Onwudiwe who advised Otuibe to allow Hon.Obiefule to conclude her speech.
This infuriated Otuibe who picked up a wine bottle and flung at the female lawmaker
Speaking on her ordeal, Hon Onwudiwe said she was shocked at the incident, describing the act as a clear attempt to kill her.
She said before the bottle was flung towards her, two of her colleagues, Hon Heclus Okoro and Fred Nnodumele, had blocked it before the object landed in her direction.
She said Hon.Otuibe did not only throw her bottles but also flung at her a glass cup which injured Hon Okoro and Nnodumele and destroyed the window blinds in the building.
She said she had done no wrong to Hon Otuibe as both of them were neither friends, stating that his colleague’s action was deliberate as he was playing out a script
