As President Bola Tinubu’s administration marks its first year in office on May 29, 2024, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Bernard Anyanwu, has said Nigerians will not hesitate to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu if the current hardship and suffering continue unabated.
Anyanwu expressed deep concerns over the APC-led federal government’s performance, stating that the past year has been marred by severe hardship and hunger across the nation.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri, he said some policy decisions of the Tinubu administration, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira have pushed over 130 million Nigerians into poverty.
The PDP chieftain painted a grim picture of daily life in Nigeria, stating that many families are struggling to feed themselves, and businesses are barely surviving.
He emphasized that the economic policies of the Tinubu administration have turned Nigerians into strugglers.
“Nigerians are now strugglers, the cost of living is exceedingly high, unemployment rates are alarming, and inflation figures have been steadily climbing, contributing to the overall decline in the country’s economic condition” he said
Anyanwu, a former local government chairman, declared that both the APC and President Tinubu have failed the people. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and wait for the next election cycle to vote out the present government as a remedy for the nation’s woes.
“The Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration has failed. In the past year, it has been hell for Nigerians. It has never been this bad, and we are all suffering in silence,” he said.
He further stated that Nigerians are tired and fed up with the suffering and hardship imposed on them by the government’s policies.
“These policies are designed to impoverish and make life difficult for the populace.Life has become so unbearable in the past year, and I doubt if this intolerable situation will change in the next two or three years. There is no ray of hope”
“Our hope for a better Nigeria has been dashed, and there seems to be no remedy to this hell we have now found ourselves in” he stated.
He also pointed out that the Tinubu administration appears to have run out of ideas and innovation on how to salvage and rescue the country from its present economic quagmire.
