Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday said his meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja was “fruitful,” sparking fresh speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obi, in a post on his verified X handle, described Jonathan as his “elder brother, statesman, and leader,” noting that their closed-door discussions went beyond courtesy visits and focused on the state of the nation.
“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” Obi wrote.
The meeting comes at a time when both men have been repeatedly mentioned in political circles as potential contenders for the presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a development that continues to fuel intrigue within the opposition.
Although neither side disclosed details of the talks, analysts say the timing points to deeper recalibrations in Nigeria’s political landscape, with opposition figures quietly testing alliances as the countdown to 2027 gathers momentum.
