A chieftain of the Labour Party in Imo State, Sir Basil Maduka has called on party members in the State to remain calm and firm insisting that the party’s structure and unity remain unaffected by the move of Mr.Peter Obi from the Labour party to the Africa Democratic Congress, ADC.
Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the labour party, had on December 31, 2025 joined the ADC.
Sir Maduka ‘s statement titled No Cause For Alarm reads:
Sir Basil Maduka, Chieftain and Leader of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, has reassured the National and State Working Committees of the Labour Party, including the Dr. Alex Otti and Nenadi-led leadership structures, that the recent movement to the ADC involves Mr. Peter Obi’s Obidient Movement and not the Labour Party as a political party.
Sir Basil Maduka has therefore called on all party faithful to remain calm, assuring them that an official statement will be issued in due course.
He further emphasized the importance of coalition-building as a means of restoring Nigerians’ confidence in democracy, while reiterating that the Labour Party remains united, indivisible, and firmly intact.
