The Imo state government has announced plans to host the South East Progressive Digital Media Summit 2026 in Owerri, as part of efforts to deepen coordinated digital engagement and responsible communication in the zone
The two-day summit is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, and Thursday, February 12, 2026, and will bring together digital media stakeholders from across the five South East states.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the Government House, Owerri, Ambrose Nwogwuogwu, senior special assistant to the Imo state governor on electronic and creative media, said the summit is being convened with representatives of all South East states.
Nwogwuogwu said the gathering is being organised pursuant to a directive of the presidency, following the National Progressive Digital Media Summit held in August 2025 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He noted that the national summit, which was declared open by President Bola Tinubu, is being replicated at the zonal level to strengthen digital media engagement and promote discipline and responsibility in online communication.
According to him, the South East summit is designed as a strategic platform to deepen progressive participation in governance and nation-building across the zone.
The Imo governor, Hope Uzodimma, is expected to declare the summit open.
APC governors from the South East, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, members of the federal executive council from the zone, and other senior party leaders are also expected to attend.
Organisers said proceedings of the summit will be broadcast on major national television networks and streamed live across multiple social media platforms.
The summit is expected to attract over 1,000 participants, including journalists, bloggers, content creators, new media aides, policymakers, and industry leaders.
Key discussions will focus on emerging digital trends and the role of new media in advancing democratic values, national growth, and effective governance.
The summit will also examine how digital platforms can be deployed to advance President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the policy direction of progressive governors in the South East.
The theme of the summit is “The Critical Role of Digital Media in Enhancing National Integration of the South East,” while details on participation, programme structure, and accreditation will be communicated in the coming days.
