Business mogul and a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Prince (Dr) Alex Mbata, has doled out N18 million and thousands of bags of rice to women across the nine local governments in Owerri zone under his PAM Humanitarian Outreach, drawing massive support from political leaders, traditional rulers and stakeholders in the zone.
The outreach, held in the spirit of Valentine’s Day and themed as a celebration of love and compassion, attracted women from the nine local government areas that make up Owerri zone. The beneficiaries received cash support and food items as part of efforts to cushion economic hardship.
Mbata, speaking at the event held at his palatial mansion in Ngwoma Obube in Owerri North Local Government Area, described women as the beauty and backbone of society, stressing their indispensable role in nation building. He said the outreach was his way of appreciating their sacrifices and reaffirming his commitment to their welfare.
Quoting Psalm 41, Mbata said he remains guided by faith in his humanitarian efforts, expressing optimism that God would reward those who show kindness and deliver them from adversity.
The event drew a large crowd of political heavyweights and party leaders from Owerri zone and beyond, including Chief Charles Amadi (Chavon); Chief Jerry Chukwueke; Chief Henry Njoku (Harritex); Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo; Lady Ann Dozie; APC Owerri Zone Chairman, Justus Ogu; former Imo APC Chairman, Hilary Eke; Hon Jennifer Oguzie; Barrister Kingsley Ononuju (Ekwedashike); Sir Dan Iwuorie; Hon (Dr) Henry Agbasonu, who represented the nine House of Assembly members of the Imo State House of Assembly; former Secretary to the Imo State Government, Hon Jude Ejiogu; Prince Lemmy Akakem; Barr Enyinnaya Onuegbu, State Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning; Nze Ray Emeana; Okenze Obinna; High Chief (Mrs) Chika Ibekwe, Executive Chairman, Ngor Okpala LGA; Hon Evans Anozie; Emma Mbata and several traditional rulers from Owerri zone.
In his remarks, Marcellinus Nlemigbo described Mbata as a straightforward, diligent and committed leader, recalling that he had long predicted a bright political future for him about 20 years ago.
Chief Charles Amadi (Chavon) commended Mbata for what he termed enormous love shown to women in the zone and announced a personal donation of N10 million to support the humanitarian outreach and its movement.
Lady Jennifer Oguzie made a cash donation of four million naira, and an additional one million naira to the royal fathers. She also spoke on the need for women to actively participate in government and officially declared her ambition to contest for the governorship of Imo State in 2028.
She described Mbata as a unique and compassionate personality, pledging continued collaboration for the benefit of Owerri zone women.
Okenze Obinna pledged N2 million on behalf of the people of Ngor Okpala LGA to support the Alex Mbata Humanitarian Outreach, while other leaders present also made financial commitments to sustain the programme. The donations were announced openly at the event amid applause from party faithful and thunderous applause and ovation from beneficiaries.
Hon Henry Agbasonu, member representing Ezinihitte Mbaise in the Imo State House of Assembly, who represented the nine House of Assembly members from Owerri zone, praised Mbata’s humility and fear of God, noting that his humanitarian gestures have continued to impact lives across the zone.
Prince Lemmy Akakem, a prominent leader in the zone, equally described Mbata as an amazing and exceptional character, commending him for sustaining what he called a people-oriented annual intervention.
Traditional rulers from across Owerri zone offered prayers and blessings for Mbata, urging him to remain steadfast in his philanthropic activities.
