The leadership of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA) has met with the vice-chancellor of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ogboko, to seek collaboration on youth empowerment and skills development.
The delegation, led by Prince Izunna Obiefule, OYA national president, paid a courtesy visit to Professor Ikechukwu Dozie on Tuesday at the university in Ogboko, Ideato South LGA of Imo state.
The visit, according to the group, is part of a broader engagement drive aimed at expanding digital innovation, vocational training and entrepreneurial opportunities for youths across the Orlu senatorial zone.
Obiefule said the assembly is focused on equipping young people with practical skills to enhance economic productivity and global competitiveness.
“Our mission is clear — to ensure that youths of Orlu Zone are equipped with practical skills that make them economically productive and globally competitive. We believe that collaboration with reputable institutions like KOMU is critical to achieving this objective,” he said.
He added that the assembly would continue to pursue partnerships and policies that promote youth empowerment, security consolidation and sustainable development across Orlu zone and Imo state.
The delegation also sought the formal establishment of an Orluzurumee students’ chapter within the university to strengthen youth representation and structured engagement on campus.
Responding, Dozie welcomed the initiative and endorsed the creation of the students’ chapter, assuring the group of the institution’s support.
“Students are central stakeholders in our academic ecosystem. Any initiative that inspires, motivates and strengthens their intellectual and moral capacity aligns with our vision as a university,” the vice-chancellor said.
He highlighted the institution’s students’ lecture series, describing it as a platform designed to expose undergraduates to leadership ideals and excellence. He also called on stakeholders and public-spirited individuals to support the university in addressing infrastructural gaps and facilitating accreditation processes.
OYA is the umbrella socio-cultural youth organisation representing the 12 local government areas in Orlu senatorial zone. The group says it maintains a structured presence across communities and tertiary institutions, focusing on youth advocacy, leadership development, empowerment programmes and policy engagement.
Members of the delegation included Dim Chibuike, secretary-general; Kenneth Okorie, assistant secretary-general; John Okolie, financial secretary; Alvan Chinaka, organising secretary; Obimma Jesse, director of student affairs; Julie Anyaoha, representative for contact and mobilisation; Ikenna Orioha, publicity secretary; Okolie Desmond, director of welfare; and Chima Otogboro, coordinator for Ideato South LGA.
