President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as minister of state for finance, effecting another cabinet reshuffle that sees Doris Uzoka-Anite redeployed for the third time since the administration took off.
In a letter addressed to Senate President on Tuesday, Tinubu sought the upper chamber’s confirmation of Oyedele, who will replace Uzoka-Anite at the finance ministry.
Until his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a panel credited with driving a sweeping overhaul of Nigeria’s tax architecture. The reform process has been central to the federal government’s efforts to expand revenue and recalibrate fiscal policy.
Uzoka-Anite, an Imo-born minister, will now serve as minister of state for budget and national planning — her third portfolio under Tinubu’s government. She was first appointed minister of industry, trade and investment at the inception of the administration before being moved to the ministry of finance as minister of state. Her latest redeployment places her in the budget and national planning ministry.
The repeated redeployments underscore Tinubu’s continued tinkering with his economic team amid mounting pressure to stabilise public finances and drive growth.
Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram in Akoko area of Ondo State. He is an economist, accountant and public policy expert with over two decades of experience spanning consulting, tax advisory and fiscal reform.
He holds a higher national diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Before his appointment, Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to become fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader. His tenure at the global consultancy positioned him as a key voice on tax reform and revenue mobilisation.
He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
The nomination was conveyed in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, dated March 3, 2026. The Senate is expected to schedule a confirmation hearing in the coming days.
