The Madukaji Dynasty of Umuosudiala, Umuoba Uratta in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State has announced the passing of its patriarch, described by the family as a “living oracle” and the oldest man in the clan. He was 96 years old.
The nonagenarian, Papa Obulimba Madukaji, was until his death regarded as the head of the clan and a custodian of tradition whose influence spanned generations within Uratta and beyond.
In a statement issued by the family, the late patriarch was portrayed as a towering figure — “a great iroko” — who maintained strong bonds across communities and was widely respected for his wisdom, courage and peace-loving disposition.
He was a retired federal civil servant and a devout Christian who served in various capacities within the church, including as a Church Warden. Family members said his commitment to faith and community development remained steadfast throughout his lifetime.
Beyond his public service, Papa Madukaji was described as a philanthropist and community builder who prioritized unity and reconciliation in times of conflict. He was also known for his openness, fearlessness and principled leadership.
Until his demise, he was married to Ugo Oha Grace Obiageriaku Madukaji (née Osuji) from Nazareth. He is survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His first son, who currently serves as the President-General of Umuoba Town Union and is the immediate past President of the Uratta Development Union, is also a former Imo State House of Assembly aspirant. The son is a lawyer, chartered arbitrator and political figure within the state.
The family noted that the deceased’s contributions to community leadership and grassroots mobilisation helped shape political and socio-cultural engagement in Owerri North over several decades.
Funeral rites for the late patriarch have been scheduled for May 29, 2026, at CKC Catholic Church, Umuoba Uratta, Owerri North, followed by interment.
The Madukaji Dynasty urged friends, associates and well-wishers to join the family in celebrating the life and legacy of the elder statesman, praying that his soul rests in peace.
