Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has called on Nigerians, particularly Christians, to emulate the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection symbolize redemption and hope for humanity.
The governor made the call on Sunday while delivering his 2026 Easter address at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Ozuh Omuma, in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, during the Easter Mass.
Uzodimma described Easter as the foundation of the Christian faith, noting that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ represent the highest form of love and sacrifice for humanity. He urged Christians to reflect on the true meaning of the season by demonstrating love, selflessness, and compassion in their daily lives.
According to him, if Nigerians embraced the virtues exemplified by Christ, such as bearing one another’s burdens and serving with humility, the country would experience greater peace, unity, and development.
“Easter is not merely a holiday but the anchor of our faith. Christ’s sacrifice calls us to live a life of unconditional love and service to others,” he said.
The governor acknowledged the prevailing economic challenges facing Nigerians, attributing them partly to global uncertainties, but stressed that such difficulties should inspire greater unity and shared responsibility among citizens.
Uzodimma expressed strong confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a committed and visionary leader working to reposition Nigeria.
He noted that the ongoing reforms by the federal government were beginning to address unemployment, revive infrastructure, and stimulate economic recovery.
While admitting that hardship still exists, the governor assured Nigerians that the situation would improve, urging citizens to remain patient and support the government’s policies through prayers and cooperation.
“As Christians, this is the time to support the government and pray for the success of ongoing reforms. The process may be challenging, but it is necessary for long-term national prosperity,” he stated.
Uzodimma also highlighted the achievements of his administration in Imo State, including road construction, youth empowerment through digital skills programmes, improved healthcare and education, and efforts to create a conducive environment for investment.
He maintained that peace remains the foundation for development, noting that the return of peace and stability in the state has paved the way for progress across various sectors.
The governor, therefore, called on Nigerians to recommit to the core values of Christianity: love, sacrifice, and service, especially during the Easter season.
He emphasized that the message of Easter offers hope for renewal and transformation, expressing optimism that Nigeria, like the story of Christ’s resurrection, will overcome its present challenges and emerge stronger through unity, faith, and collective resolve.
