The Onye Isi Ala Owerri, Reginald Ejiogu, has attributed the decision of the people of Owerri Municipal to honour the immediate past Imo State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir MacDonald Ebere, PhD, to his sustained contributions to human capital development and community welfare across the Municipality
Ejiogu, who also serves as the Spiritual Leader of Owerri Nchi Ise made this known in an interview with INNONEWS, noting that the planned civic reception represents a collective expression of appreciation for Ebere’s impactful and people-oriented leadership.
He stated that Ebere broke new ground as the first indigene of Owerri Nchi Ise to serve as chairman of a ruling political party for four years—an era he said translated into measurable benefits for many families.
According to him, several indigenes of Owerri secured employment opportunities in both public and private establishments within and outside Imo State. These, according to him, include placements at the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos; the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri (formerly FMC, Owerri); Imo State University (IMSU); the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO); Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo; and the Imo Transport Company (ITC).
Ejiogu further disclosed that many youths from the area also benefited from internship opportunities at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, facilitated during Ebere’s tenure, enabling them to acquire practical professional experience.
He added that beyond job placements, Ebere extended support to numerous families through empowerment initiatives designed to improve livelihoods and cushion economic hardship.
Highlighting a notable humanitarian gesture, Ejiogu revealed that Ebere donated N20 million towards a kidney transplant for Mr. David Oweregbulam from Umuororonjo village, describing the intervention as a mark of compassion and rare generosity.
“We are honouring him because he impacted lives directly. He created jobs, supported families, and stood by people in critical moments. This is leadership that deserves recognition,” Ejiogu said.
He emphasized that the civic reception is not merely celebratory but also intended to promote a culture of service-driven leadership among public office holders.
Ejiogu also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his continued support to the people of Owerri, noting that recognising individuals like Ebere aligns with broader efforts to advance development in the area. He also commended the Governor for giving Ebere the opportunity to excel.
The civic reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Township Primary School, Owerri, and is expected to attract political leaders, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders from across the state.
