The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has described the return of High Chief Duru Mike Ejiogu as a strategic boost to its grassroots structure, particularly in Okigwe zone.
Chief Amb. Chuks Ajaelu, PDP state vice chairman for Okigwe zone, said Ejiogu’s re-entry into the party would reinforce its ward and local government presence, positioning it for stronger political outings in the state.
Ejiogu, a prominent figure from Anara Ancient Kingdom in Isiala Mbano LGA, was formally registered in his Osuama/Anara ward on Thursday, 9th April, 2026 in the presence of party leaders and stakeholders.
The event was witnessed by the PDP local government executive committee led by Sir Emma Ajero, alongside members of the Okigwe zonal executive and other party faithful.
Party insiders said the development has already sparked renewed momentum within the PDP in the area, with supporters interpreting it as a signal of broader realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajaelu noted that the party’s doors remain open to more political actors willing to identify with its platform, stressing that inclusiveness remains central to its rebuilding efforts in Imo.
He linked the development to the leadership direction of key PDP figures, including Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory; Distinguished Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, national secretary of the party; and Rt Hon.Austin Nwachukwu, Imo PDP chairman.
According to him, the emphasis on unity and reconciliation by the party’s leadership has continued to attract influential stakeholders back into its fold.
Ejiogu, who holds the titles of Akaekpuchi Onwa Mbano and Onowu Ndigbo, is regarded as a significant grassroots mobiliser in Okigwe zone, with strong political networks across various communities in the zone.
Some party officials in the zone who spoke to our reporter expressed optimism that his return would not only consolidate existing structures but also trigger further defections, as the party intensifies efforts to regain political relevance in Imo State.
