The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its primary elections for various elective positions between May 16 and May 22, 2026, as part of activities lined up for the 2027 general elections.
According to the party’s timetable, primaries for state houses of assembly will hold on May 16, while governorship primaries are slated for May 18. Elections to pick candidates for the house of representatives will take place on May 20, with senatorial primaries fixed for May 22.
The timetable was signed by Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the APC national organising secretary.
The schedule is contained in a document issued by the party’s national secretariat outlining its proposed activities in compliance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 polls.
The party said the process will commence with the issuance of notice of election to state chapters on April 20, 2026, followed by the sale of nomination forms between April 25 and May 2.
It added that the deadline for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents has been set for May 4, after which screening of aspirants will begin.
Screening exercises for state assembly aspirants will take place in state capitals, while those for governorship, national assembly, and presidential hopefuls will be conducted in Abuja.
The APC said screening will hold between May 9 and May 10, with an additional session on May 23 for presidential aspirants.
Publication of screening results is scheduled for May 13 for most positions, while the presidential category will be released on May 24. Appeals arising from the screening will be heard on May 14, with presidential appeals fixed for May 25.
Following the primaries, election appeals for all categories are expected to be concluded between May 24 and May 25.
The party also disclosed that its special convention for the presidential primary election will hold between May 28 and May 29, adopting a direct primary system across the 36 states and the federal capital territory.
On the cost of nomination, the APC pegged the presidential form at ₦100 million, comprising ₦30 million for expression of interest and ₦70 million for nomination. Governorship aspirants are to pay ₦50 million, while senatorial, house of representatives, and state assembly forms cost ₦20 million, ₦10 million, and ₦5 million respectively.
The party noted that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities will only pay for the expression of interest form and 50 percent of the nomination fee.
