Former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Steve Ogbuagu, has formally resigned his membership of the Labour Party, citing a shift in personal convictions and a new political direction.

In a resignation letter dated April 13, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the Labour Party in Akabo Ward, Ikeduru Local Government Area, Ogbuagu, a former Majority of the State Assembly said his exit takes immediate effect, bringing an end to his time as a card-carrying member of the party.

The former lawmaker anchored his decision on what he described as “careful reflection” on his beliefs and the prevailing political realities, noting that the move represents a deliberate redirection of his political path.

“This decision comes after careful reflection on my personal convictions and current political redirection,” he stated.

Ogbuagu, however expressed gratitude for the relationships and collaborations he built during his stay in the Labour Party.

He acknowledged what he called the “wonderful relationship, team spirit and sweet partnerships” he enjoyed with members, suggesting his departure does not diminish the value of his experiences within the party.

The ex-lawmaker also directed the ward leadership to formally update its records, requesting that his name be removed from all party registers, platforms, and activities going forward.

“Kindly update the ward register accordingly and discontinue my name from all Labour Party platforms and activities henceforth,” he wrote, emphasizing the finality of his decision.

Copies of the resignation letter were forwarded to key party and electoral authorities, including the Labour Party Chairman in Ikeduru LGA, the Imo State Chairman of the party, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Owerri.

The letter was acknowledged at the ward level, with the Akabo Ward Chairman, Evangelist Uchenna Onuoha, signing and dating receipt on the same day, indicating official notice of Ogbuagu’s exit.
