The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned South-East governors against lending themselves to be used against their Chairman and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
It noted that at this critical stage of Nigeria’s political evolution, when Uzodimma is working hard to align the region to the national power bloc, it would be counterproductive for them to work against him.
Addressing a world press conference in Owerri on Friday, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide regretted that some external enemies were trying to lure some Igbo governors to work against the leadership of Uzodimma.
Apparently referring to the botched palace coup against Uzodimma in the Progressive Governors Forum, the body condemned in strong terms any attempt by saboteurs to cause division among Igbo governors.
“The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes strongly that this is the time for Igbo leaders to unite, speak with one voice and stop undermining or betraying fellow brothers and sisters for political gains,” it declared in the press statement read by Comrade Ogbonnia Wenesclaus and signed by more than 10 leaders of the group.
According to it, “In particular, we urge governors from the South East not to lend themselves as tools for outsiders seeking to undermine the leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma at the national level and ultimately divide the cohesive Igbo leadership architecture that Uzodimma has worked hard to build over the years.”
Expressing satisfaction with the leadership of Uzodimma both as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and that of South-East governors, Ohanaeze warned against allowing the pull-down syndrome to rear its ugly head again in Alaigbo.
“The national leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide wishes to state clearly that we shall continue to stand firmly with Senator Hope Uzodimma at all times for the betterment, protection and advancement of Ndigbo interest,” it insisted.
Ohanaeze described Uzodimma as a visionary and courageous leader who has consistently placed the interest of the Igbo nation first in national discourse and political engagements.
According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide, “We commend Gov. Hope Uzodimma for the strategic role he has played in stabilising and repositioning Ohanaeze while promoting peace, unity, inclusiveness and purposeful leadership among Ndigbo both at home and in the diaspora.”
