The All Progressives Congress in Imo State has directed aggrieved aspirants in the just concluded House of Representatives primaries in Imo State to submit petitions to its National Assembly Primary Appeal Committee, following complaints trailing the exercise and the unexpected defeat of some serving lawmakers seeking third and fourth terms.
In a notice issued on Saturday, the party said the appeal committee had been inaugurated to receive complaints arising from the primaries conducted across the state on May 16. The committee fixed Monday, May 18, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the APC State Secretariat along Okigwe Road, Owerri, for the submission of petitions and hearing of appeals.
The notice, signed by committee chairman, Engr. Tuoyo Omatstuli, and secretary, Hon. Godwin Anaughe, urged dissatisfied aspirants to appear before the panel within the stipulated time to challenge outcomes of the exercise they consider irregular.
The development followed dramatic outcomes recorded in several federal constituencies during the primaries, where a number of entrenched political figures reportedly lost their return bids, paving the way for new contenders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers in the state said the outcome signalled a major shake-up within the ruling party, particularly with the collapse of the ambitions of some lawmakers accused by critics of attempting to perpetuate themselves in office.
Among aspirants said to have emerged from the exercise are Mrs. Ngozi Pat-Ekeji for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency; Ms. Sandra Inyama for Ideato North/Ideato South; Rt. Hon. Canicemoore Nwachukwu for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East; and Chief Jonas Okeke for Okigwe South Federal Constituency.
Others include Hon. Uche Emmanuel Agasu for Okigwe North; Rt. Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu for Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West; Chief Cosmos Maduba for Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba; Rt. Hon. Akarachi Amadi for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru; Rt. Hon. Tochukwu Okere for Owerri Federal Constituency; and Hon. Chukwudi Anyanwuocha for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency.
