Three aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress senatorial ticket for Imo North have stepped down from the race and declared support for incumbent senator, Patrick Ndubueze, ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
The aspirants who withdrew include Mr. Ike Odoeme from Ihitte Uboma, Dr. Gloria Akobundu from Isiala Mbano and Chief Longers Anyanwu from Obowo. Their decision was announced during a meeting with the leadership of the APC in Imo State on Sunday night.
In a video that later went viral, Chief Longers Anyanwu, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in Imo State, flanked by the other aspirants, read the withdrawal letter on behalf of the group and declared their support for Senator Ndubueze’s second-term bid.
Imo APC chairman, Austine Onyedebelu, welcomed the development during the meeting held at his office, describing the withdrawals as a step capable of strengthening party unity ahead of the primary contest in Okigwe Zone.
Meanwhile, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume remains the other major contender in the race and is expected to square up against Senator Ndubueze in the APC primary election billed to hold on Monday.
