The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports questioning the candidacy of Senator Patrick Chiwuba Ndubueze for the Imo North Senatorial District, insisting that the lawmaker remains the party’s duly nominated candidate and that his name has already been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement on Wednesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the APC said the nomination process for all legislative positions in the state had been concluded and ratified by the party’s national leadership.
The party stated that all candidates who emerged from its primary elections had been cleared and accepted by the National Working Committee (NWC), which subsequently forwarded their names and credentials to INEC.
According to the statement, “The State Working Committee of the Party affirms that the nomination process for all legislative constituencies has been concluded peacefully, and the names of all the standard bearers elected by party members have been cleared and accepted by the National Working Committee of the Party, which has in turn submitted these candidates’ names and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission.”
The APC stressed that Senator Patrick Chiwuba Ndubueze remains its authentic standard bearer for the Imo North Senatorial District, dismissing speculations suggesting otherwise.
The party further declared that it was unaware of any pending litigation or petition challenging Ndubueze’s nomination, stating, “The Party in the State is not aware of any ongoing litigation and or petition challenging the nomination of Senator Patrick Ndubueze as the standard bearer of our Party.”
Expressing confidence in the senator’s chances at the polls, the APC described Ndubueze as qualified, experienced and widely accepted across the district. It added that he possesses the capacity to secure victory for the party in the forthcoming general election.
The statement also appealed to party leaders and aspirants who participated in the APC senatorial primary to close ranks behind Ndubueze. “All Party leaders, especially aspirants who participated in the last primary election of the Party are encouraged to fully align with Distinguished Senator Patrick Ndubueze to ensure a smooth and overwhelming victory for our Party in the general elections,” the statement read.
