After years of supporting women across Owerri Zone through financial assistance, empowerment programmes and other forms of intervention, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Imo East, Prince (Dr) Alex Mbata, has pledged to sustain and expand the initiatives if elected to represent the zone in the Senate in 2027.
Mbata made the pledge during the grand finale of a grassroots town hall engagement organised by the Mbata Women Alliance in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, where women and APC supporters rallied behind his candidacy and that of other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering marked the culmination of the alliance’s grassroots town hall meetings across the nine local government areas of Owerri Zone, bringing together women, party leaders and political stakeholders. The mobilisation provided a platform for the women to interact with the APC senatorial candidate and reaffirm their support, with organisers pointing to Mbata’s interventions over the past five years as a major factor behind the growing relationship between him and women across the zone.
Addressing the gathering, Prince Mbata said his commitment to women’s empowerment would remain unwavering, stressing that women deserved dignity, opportunity and the support necessary to improve their lives and families. “Every one of us came into this world through a woman. That alone tells us that women deserve honour, dignity and every opportunity to thrive,” he said. “My commitment to supporting and empowering women will remain steadfast because when you uplift women, you strengthen families, communities and society at large.”
The business mogul said he would continue to support programmes focused on economic empowerment, financial assistance and greater opportunities for women, while also urging the gathering to appreciate Governor Hope Uzodimma, whom he described as a courageous leader whose administration had continued to reshape Imo State through infrastructure development and other initiatives.
The coordinator of the Mbata Women Alliance and Ngor Okpala LGA Executive Chairman , Chika Ibekwe, said the town hall meetings demonstrated the confidence women across Owerri Zone had developed in Mbata, citing his longstanding humanitarian interventions and direct support for women and vulnerable families.
Former lawmakers Dan Ikpeazu and Bede Eke, alongside other APC leaders and stakeholders, commended the women for their mobilisation and urged them to sustain their grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections. They called on the women to take the campaign to wards, villages and communities across Owerri Zone, as the APC candidate seeks to translate his years of grassroots engagement and empowerment initiatives into electoral support in the 2027 Senate race.
