The Anambra State Police Command has said it is untrue that arms and ammunitions were discovered in an articulated vehicle that conveyed yam into Nnewi on June 12.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sam Okuala told the News Agency of Nigeria that none of such occurred.
He said what actually happened was that some where in Uruagu, Nnewi, a vigilante operative went to a pit and dug out old and rusted magazines and few ammunition.
The Police Chief said the operative drew the attention of the President General of the community,Mr. Charles Nwonye who in turn informed the Police. He said he directed the officer in charge of SARS, Awkuzu to recover the items.
He said he was stunned to heat a senseless story making the round that large cache of ammunition was discovered in a lorry that conveyed yam tubers into the community to cause mayhem.
