There are strong indications that the organized labour in Imo State may have countered a reported solidarity rally by Imo workers for Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Reports had gone viral that workers in the State were coerced to go on a rally to show solidarity for the State Government.

The rally was scheduled for Tuesday, 18th July but shifted to Thursday July 21, 2018 to be held at Heroes Square,Owerri.

Imo State Commissioner of Information, Prof Nnamdi Obiareri was quoted to have said the workers organized the rally on their own

He said “It’s the decision of the Imo workforce. On their own, they chose to honour a man that has honoured them. What is bad about that? Okorocha is a labour- friendly governor”

His postulation was countered by a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Uche Onyeagocha who said the rally was induced on the workers by the State Government.

“To us, forcing or coercing Imo civil servants into such a jamboree against their wish is not only unfortunate but insultive on the entire Imo state workforce. It is also morally unjustifiable for the Governor to force the civil servants in the state to go against their wish” Onyeagocha said.

The organized labour in a statement via fliers advised Imo workers to ignore the falsehood saying the purported rally slated for Tuesday 19th June, 2018 but shifted to Thursday is not in the best interest of the workers.

It was gathered that the rally was organized through the Welfare Associations in MDAs.
