Women In Imo Community Raise Alarm Over Invasion Of Herdsmen

by admin

Women of Amakohia Ubi Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State stormed Government House, Owerri on a protest alleging that some Fulani herdsmen have invaded their community and raped them.

The women in hundreds carried placards with various inscriptions accusing the herdsmen who entered their community two months ago of destroying their farmlands and their crops.

Some of the placards read “Nnama (Cows) has taken over our community”, “our schools have been destroyed by herdsmen” , “Our Husbands are no where to be found”, ” Amakohia Ubi is no longer safe for farming” “Owelle Come To Our Rescue” “Cattle Rearers Have Taken Over Our Community”

Speaking on behalf of the women, the Women President of the community, Lady Betty Uneze alleged that the herdsmen have indulged in molestation and  incessant raping of their women in the last two months.

She also condemned the destruction of their farm produce.

Mrs Uneze said the people are naturally farmers and the community has been the food basket of the State because they are in compliance with the State agricultural policy.

“We are here on a peaceful protest to inform the State Government and the Governor on the activities of these herdsmen in our community

” If no action is taken, we will never return here again rather we will take action by ourselves

No Imo State Government official addressed the protesting women.
