Foremost activist, Comrade Chidozie Orujuba, has officially joined the race to represent Ideato North Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. The University of Port Harcourt-trained engineer made his intention known in a meeting with the LGA leadership of the party at Urualla, recently.
He stated that as an activist his vision is to empower the people and lend a voice to the oppressed through the instrumentality of the legislature.
The Akpulu-born former member of the Imo State Working Committee of APGA said his aspiration is motivated by the intolerable misrule in the state and the poor representation which Ideato North has had lately.
He dismissed the current Imo State House of Assembly as consisting of people who have contributed more to impunity, illegal and abuse of public trust through their docility and greed, and insisted that what Imo has is a house without assembly.
The fiery critic further vowed that the legislature which Imo will have come 2019 will be one that will not just ensure that Rochas Okorocha and his cohorts are brought to book but also one that will put a mechanism in place to forestall the emergence of another Okorocha.
He also assured the constituents that when elected he will ensure periodic constituency briefings to take inputs from the people which will constitute the substance of his motions and bills.
Recall that in 2014 Comrade Chidozie Orujuba as a member of the Imo State Working Committee of APGA was among those who fought for internal democracy in APGA when the party had contrived an illegal imposition of a governorship candidate. When they took the protest to Abuja, a ghastly motor accident occurred on their way back which took the lives of five members of the APGA Executive in the state. Orujuba however came out miraculously from the vehicle unscathed.
Orujuba appealed to the party leadership and faithful to nominate him as flag bearer, and promised to continue working for the progress of APGA.
