It was fireworks on Monday as aides of Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and APC governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma exchanged verbal words over claims by State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, that Okorocha failed to recognize him (Madumere) as Deputy Governor of Imo State.

Madumere had in a statement on Sunday said Okorocha refused to acknowledge him as Number 2 citizen of the State before dignitaries at the funeral of the mother of Senator Osita Izunaso at the weekend.

Okorocha’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemedo, insisted he deliberately refused to recognize Madumere as Deputy Governor at the event .

“As a matter of fact, the failure of the Governor to recognize Madumere as the Deputy Governor of the State at that event was not an oversight. That was the proper thing to do because there is an existing appeal at the Appeal Court against the High Court judgement that quashes the impeachment of Madumere by the State House of Assembly

“So until the appeal is decided, Madumere remains impeached. And recognizing him as the Deputy Governor of the State with the appeal pending would mean jeopardizing the appeal” he said.

But Barrister Enyinnaya Onuegbu, a die hard supporter of Senator Hope Uzodinma in his response posted on this newspaper’s WhatsApp platform, took a swipe at Okorocha’s aide.

He said the judgement which declared Madumere impeached was “a declaratory one with a restraining perpetual injunction against the emergence or reference to any third party as being in the position of D/Gov and the law does not recognize D/Gov designate.

“That there is an appeal( the appellant till date has not even fulfilled the necessary conditions for appeal) cannot justify your disrespect or disobedience to that judgment. I know also that your write up can earn you a committal proceedings. That judgment being declaratory one cannot even be subject of a stay of execution” Barr. Onuegbu wrote
