The Federal Government has approved the construction of ten mega watts hydro generating power plant to be built at Otammiri and Nworie River in Owerri, Imo State.
Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, made this revelation at a luncheon to mark the 62nd Independence Day Thanksgiving Mass in Owerri.
He said the power plant when completed, is geared towards generating and supplying uninterrupted power supply within Owerri metropolis and beyond.
He noted that with the recent approval of the dredging of the Orashi River into the Atlantic Ocean by the Federal Government, there are plans to float the Orashi free trade zone for Oil and gas.
“With an initial $1.5b foreign investment, this will translate to more than 300,000 job and economic opportunities” he said.
