2023 Election:PDP Dwindling To Extinction In South East- APC Chieftain

by admin

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State, Hon Ernest Okoro, has stated that the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is gradually diminishing into extinction in the South East geo political zone.

Okoro who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, said based on the results thus far from the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25, no Senator on the platform of the PDP was elected to the Senate.

He said this indicates the gradual decline of the party in the South East, having committed a big political blunder by denying the region it’s presidential ticket during it’s presidential Primary which it conceded to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

He said Peter Obi’s Labour party dealt a huge blow to the PDP in the South East, sweeping victory in the five South East States, and has successfully taken over from the PDP as the leading political party in zone.

“The PDP gambled with the South East by denying the region it’s presidential ticket. And that contributed to it’s dismal failure in the South East during the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The two dominant political parties in the South East presently are the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Labour Party. Others, including the PDP make up the numbers.

“While the Labour Party swept the South East at the Presidential election, the APC won six senatorial seats, Labour Party won five senatorial seats, APGA won one senatorial seat, YPP has one senatorial seat, the PDP has none in the region” he stated

Okoro stated that with the Senatorial election be held on March 11 in Enugu East, the LP would likely carry the day, stating that “the PDP has no chance to clinch any governorship seat in the South East in the forthcoming March 11 governorship and State Assembly election”

He blamed political leaders in the party in the zone for lack of selflessness and for “playing into the hands of their counterparts from the North, who cared no hoot about the survival of the party in the region, despite the consistent support the South East had given to the party since 1999”
