by admin

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it would go ahead to conduct House of Assembly elections in trouble areas in Imo State.

The areas are Orsu, Orlu, and Oru East Local Governments.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting which reviewed the February 14 Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner,  Prof Sylvia Agu, said the Commission would deploy both personnel and electoral materials to those areas during the state Assembly election to be held on March 11.

He called on political parties and politicians to co-operate with the Commission to make the elections a success.

She attributed the late commencement of the Presidential and National Assembly election, to the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and their NARTO counterparts, which backed out of an agreement with the Commission, to convey staff and materials to poll centres.

Stakeholders a the meeting advised the REC to make alternative arrangements with private transporters on the day the State Assembly elections will hold to avoid last minute disappointment.
