Moneybags Hijack Imo Labour Party, Aspirants Kick

by admin

There is huge confusion in the Imo State chapter of the Labour Party, as top party leaders in the State allege that infiltrators and money bags may have compromised the national leadership of the party.

This has raised dust in the party in the State, as most of the governorship aspirants are crying foul over the recent action of the National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure, to dissolve the State Executives of the party and set up a Caretaker Committee.

Top party sources revealed that the party Chairman reneged on his promise to appoint a Caretaker Committee which would only conduct congresses, but strangely extended the mandate of the Committee, to three months and to conduct the governorship primary.

A chieftain of the party in Imo State, Orikeze Vitalis Ajumbe, cexpressed worry over the action of the National Chairman, moreso when members of the State Caretaker Committee are from one particular governorship aspirant.

“I have advised the National Party Chairman to look into this matter, in order not to set the party on fire, and avoid agitation of supporters of other governorship aspirants who also paid N25m to buy forms” he told INNONEWS.

It was gathered that most of the governorship aspirants are already crying foul, alleging of a secret plot by the National Chairman to hand over the party’s governorship ticket to the highest bidder.

Sources in the party further explained that this situation has ignited tension in the party ahead of the State Assembly elections, as candidates of the party are gradually losing their supporters barely a week to the election.

“This would affect the chances of the party in the State Assembly election because it is very clear that the ruling party wants to destroy the Labour Party in Imo State by hijacking it. This is unacceptable.

“We have it on good authority that the National Chairman may have been induced financially to carry out this nefarious and retrogressive action, capable of affecting the chances of the party in the governorship election” a source said.

Effort to speak to the National Chairman, Abure, were unsuccessful.
