Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has vowed to redesign Imo State if elected governor in the November 11 governorship election.

He spoke shortly after he emerged the governorship candidate of the party in a contest he was the sole contestant.

A former governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, had pulled out of the party’s governorship primary two weeks ago.

The primary election was held at the party’s secretariat, Owerri. Three delegates from each electoral ward in the state voted orderly after they were painstakingly and openly accredited by the Electoral Panel that conducted the election.

Anyanwu polled 802 votes to emerge winner.

INEC officials, delegates from the national body and other stakeholders of the PDP including security personnel and journalists were also present to monitor the primary.

While declaring Anyanwu winner, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Rt. Hon. Kenneth Okon, noted that the primary election was peaceful and fair, saying the PDP is ready for the forthcoming polls.

In his speech, Senator Anyanwu promised to redesign Imo State with a view to lifting the people from poverty, suffering, hardship and insecurity which he noted bedevil the state.

He expressed delight on his emergence as the consensus candidate of the PDP, even as he thanked the party for conducting a peaceful primary election.

“I happily thank the PDP, the Electoral Committee, the stakeholders and the entire Imolites for the free and peaceful conduct of the primary election. I will work for you, work with you to recapture Imo State. I will not take the honor and privilege for granted. Imo people crave for liberty and PDP will offer solution to their problems”.

“I will take Imo people out of poverty. Only the PDP can offer good governance to rescue the people from mal-administration and insecurity which bedevil the state. I have the capacity to govern Imo having had the leadership and legislative experience as Senator and Imo State House of Assembly member”, he said.
