Three days after giving birth, a baby was pulled from a pit toilet in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area, of the State.
The incident took place on Sunday, according to a report published on the Facebook page of the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.
Nwaedoka Chidinma, a 20-year-old woman from Izzi in Ebonyi State who is the mother of the male kid, is alleged to have committed the crime on purpose.
Chidinma’s friend and farmer, Esther Omesi informed the appropriate authorities of the incident.
Omesi claimed that she was visiting Chidinma when it occurred.
She claims that on Sunday, after telling Omesi that she was experiencing stomach discomfort, Chidinma began acting strangely.
Omesi provided more information about what transpired, stating that on Tuesday morning they heard a baby cry and immediately utilized a ladder to rescue the infant.
Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Honorable Commissioner for women and social welfare, was taken aback when the mother and child were brought into her office as a result of the incident.
She then turned to Chidinma and asked, “Why would you put the infant in the toilet after going through pregnancy and giving birth?
The commissioner immediately ordered that the infant be transferred to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, in Awka for medical attention.
The commissioner then demanded the arrest of the offender, stating that the State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has zero tolerance for inhumane treatment.
