Warning Strike Partially Halts Commercial, Vehicular Activities In Enugu

BY JOHN IGWE, ENUGU

The Nigeria Labour Congress’ (NLC) warning strike partially halted commercial and human activities in Enugu City,  making it difficult for residents of the city to go about their normal activities.

A tour of the city by our reporter indicates that several banks and other financial institutions were closed.

Recall that the NLC had notified the federal and state governments of a two-day warning strike if they failed to provide relief and assistance to Nigerians suffering from severe hardship over the removal of subsidies on petrol.

However, it was observed that there was not much compliance with the warning strike in the Federal and Enugu State Secretariats in Enugu, as some employees (mainly senior or management-level employees) were seen going about their normal duties.

However, there were active full-scale vehicular and commercial operations on the city’s main streets, markets, and plazas.
