The Owerri Zone Awareness Coalition, OZAC, has called on those already scheming to be Governor Hope Uzodimma’s successor in 2028 to back off for now.
Uzodimma is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC in the November 11 Imo governorship election.
In an interview from his UK base, OZAC President Eugene Anyanwu said it is “preposterous for some persons from Owerri zone, especially in the APC, to be scheming to take over from Governor Hope Uzodimma when he is yet to win re-election in the November 11, 2023 governorship election.”
He said OZAC has uncovered a plot by some overzealous politicians in Owerri Zone, especially in the APC, who are already neck deep in plans to succeed the governor when his political fate is yet to be decided in the forthcoming governorship election.
“OZAC frowns at this development. The governor’s re-election should be paramount and uppermost in the minds of this set of politicians in his party, and not to seek his favor for the 2028 polls, which will take place in four years.”
“We should learn to count one before two. OZAC is aware that some politicians in Owerri Zone, especially those in the camp of the governor, are already strategizing to take over from him in 2028,” he said.
“This is a case of one running after his shadow. If the Charter of Equity is to be adhered to, then Owerri Zone is in pole position to produce the next governor at the end of Uzodimma’s tenure.”
“And it is premature for any sensible politician from Owerri zone, in the APC, to be thinking of taking over from the governor in four years time, when Uzodimma’s political fate, at the moment, hangs in the balance” . They should wait after he is re-elected,” he said.
Anyanwu said OZAC will ensure that Owerri Zone’s finest emerges governor in 2028, in conformity with the tenets and dictates of the Imo Charter of Equity.
“Our finest, our best, and one acceptable beyond the shores of Owerri Zone, irrespective of political party affiliation, will become Imo State governor in 2028. OZAC will lead this campaign,” he said.
