Following his victory in the November 11 Imo governorship election, Governor Hope Uzodimma is now confronted with a legal challenge as some contestants from the polls have taken the matter to the Election Petitions Tribunal.
The Labour Party governorship candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, has officially filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal, seeking to contest Uzodimma’s re-election as governor.
Ihejirika Emeka, a lawyer associated with the Labour Party, confirmed Senator Achonu’s petition through a WhatsApp post.
The grounds of the petition and the specific issues being contested were not immediately disclosed.
Senator Achonu, in collaboration with his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had held a joint press conference in Owerri, where they accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies of collusion to ensure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The PDP candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, also expressed his intention to challenge INEC’s declaration of Uzodimma as the winner of the November 11 governorship election in court.
