A “Snake steam” in Ameke Item, Bende local government area of Abia State, permits only women to swim in its waters.
As shared by a Facebook user Justice Okoro, the river, known as Ihechi, is said to be under the guardianship of a specific snake.
Okoro emphasized that the presence of this snake prohibits males from bathing or swimming in the stream, as it is believed that killing the snake would bring about fatal consequences.
According to local belief, even if the snake were to bite someone, no harm would befall them.
It is said that the snake possesses the ability to swim with only ladies in its waters.
“The stream is called Ihechi. Only ladies are allowed to bathe and swim here. The snake does come by the side of the stream to welcome people and no one will kill it
“Killing of the snake attracts death and if the snake bites you, nothing will happen to you” he wrote
