Achonu Can’t Stop Ihedioha From Joining Labour Party- Party Insists

by admin

The Labour Party in Imo State has declared that its 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, cannot stop former governor Emeka Ihedioha from joining the party.

This comes amidst rumours that Achonu is opposed to Ihedioha’s possible entry into the Labour Party.

Ihedioha had recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with hundreds of party supporters, sparking speculation about his next move.

His meeting with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State last week further fueled rumours that he might be joining the Labour Party.

In a statement signed by State Chairman and Secretary of Labour Party in Imo State and seen by INNONEWS, Barr Callistus Ihejiagwa, and Paul Udechukwu, the party clarified that Achonu’s position as governorship candidate does not give him the authority to control or interfere with party functions.

“Senator Athan Achonu is our governorship candidate… however, he does not control and interfere with functioning of the party at any level…

“Senator Athan has no right or capacity to stop HE Hon Emeka Ihedioha or anyone that wants to join our party from doing so,” the statement read.

The party also emphasized that both Achonu and Ihedioha are democrats and seasoned politicians, and their long-time friendship would not be affected by being in the same party.

“Senator Athan and Rt Hon Ihedioha are democrats, seasoned politicians and long-time friends… we have no doubt that they will not have any problem being in the same party…” the statement added.
