Transfer expert and journalist, Dean Jones, has revealed that Chelsea are considering Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a backup option if they are unable to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer.
Chelsea are reportedly keen to bring in Osimhen, but with complications surrounding the potential deal, attention could shift to Toney as an alternative target.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jones noted that while Toney has drawn interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, a move to Chelsea would likely be more appealing in terms of career prospects.
“Moving to Saudi Arabia would benefit Toney financially but I am not sure where it leaves him in terms of pursuing an England career,” Jones stated.
He further explained that a transfer to a top Premier League club could be more tempting for Toney, who may want to prove himself at the highest level.
“Obviously there aren’t many landing spots for him anymore – Arsenal and Spurs both ruled out and I don’t see United coming in for him anymore,” Jones added.
According to Jones, Chelsea remains the most likely destination for Toney if they fail to secure Osimhen, as the club has been monitoring the striker throughout the year.
