The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House Of Representatives and spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), citing gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
The expulsion was confirmed on December 6, 2024, in a statement by the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku.
The decision to suspend the lawmaker followed a recommendation from a disciplinary committee report of the party submitted on November 27, 2024, to the State Working Committee of Imo PDP.
According to the PDP, Ugochinyere’s offenses included failing to participate in party activities, refusing to attend disciplinary hearings, forming parallel party structures, and making derogatory public statements against the party.
These actions, the party stated, violated sections of its 2017 constitution and brought the PDP into disrepute.
Ugochinyere’s troubles with the PDP began on October 14, 2024, when he was suspended by his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward for ignoring an invitation to address allegations of misconduct.
According to the party, despite repeated reminders, he reportedly refused to engage with the party’s disciplinary process, prompting further action by the PDP executive in Ideato North Local Government Area (LGA).
Part of the stated “Upon receipt of the disciplinary committee’s report, the Ideato North LGA Executive Committee met on December 5, 2024, and unanimously adopted the report.
“Consequently, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the PDP with immediate effect.”
The statement referenced sections 58(1)(e) and 58(1)(i) of the PDP constitution, which prohibit members from neglecting party meetings and publicizing internal disputes without authorization.
Ugochinyere, a vocal figure in Nigerian politics, is yet to publicly address his expulsion.
